The activity status of a weblog is simply an indication of the number of posts made on it in the last month. The more posts made, the faster the creature shown.

Introduction

Just a list of slogans for use in EekFun. Each time pages are generated, one gets randomlly picked and used.

Currently they are usted just in the home page, but we may begin to insert them in more places.

Please don't put dots at the end of lines.

Note that the lines are sorted alphabetically. That should probably be preserved.

Invisible links

This page describes how to make your links to EekFun invisible, if you really want to.

If you have to make a link to URL, use the following HTML code (in your post or in your weblog's template, depending on the type of link you're making):

This will only put an invisible 1x1 pixel inside your link.

Introduction

The entries in this file will be used by EekFun to determine what text to display in the page of a user according to the number of posts he has made in the last month.

The format is pretty straight forward:

Evertyhing above (and including) the Data title will be ignored.
Empty lines are ignored.
Lines after that must have the format: ;N:TEXT where N is a number and TEXT is a comma-separated list of options.
If a user has made i posts, we will randomly pick one of the text entries in the line for the greatest N such that N <= i.

Why does EekFun use invitations?

Webloggers can only join EekFun when an existing user of EekFun invites them to.

There are two reasons EekFun uses invitations to control who can join:

It will probably help track down spammers and abusers.
It allows us to control the growth of EekFun, which is still in the early phases of development.

How do I participate in EekFun?

Once you've joined EekFun you'll want to begin adding links to your posts with semantics that EekFun can understand. This will allow EekFun to do useful things with your posts.

If you write about a given item and you liked it and wish to recommend it to others, use a link to:

http://eekfun.com/TYPE/NAME#act:up

If you do not like it and wish to recommend that others do not read/see/buy it, use a link to:

http://eekfun.com/TYPE/NAME#act:down

TYPE needs to be one of the following words:

movies: If your post is about one movie you have seen.
books: If your post is about one book you have read.
places: If your post is about one place you have been to. It can be a city, a restaurant, a country, a bar or anything you want.
albums: If your post is about one music album.
events: If your post is about one event you attended to or intend to attend to.
games: If your post is about one game. This includes video games and well as board games.
articles: If your post is about one article.
tv: If your post is about a TV series.

NAME needs to be replaced with the name of the item in all lowercases with spaces replaced by dashes and anything other than an alphabetic letter or a number removed.

The content of the link can be anything you want (even an invisible 1x1 pixel).

Here are a few example links:

The idea here is that whenever you read a book or listen to a new album or watch a movie, you write to your weblog about it, even if just a short note stating that you liked it or that it sucked bigtime. Of course, the more you write about it the better, but if you don't have time for that you should just write short notes, cause you won't have time in the future. :-)

That's all there is to it. Start writing now!

What does EekFun do with my links?

Based on any links as described above that EekFun finds in your posts, it will do the following things:

Register your post in the page about the movie.
In the page about you, list your post in the list of movies you've seen.
In the home page of someone who declares you as a friend, list the movie in the list of movies friends have seen.

Of course, the same is also true for books, albums, places and events.

Friends List

EekFun needs to know which are the weblogs of your friends. It uses this to try to do useful things such as show you the posts they make. This page describes how to add friends.

Adding a friend

To add a friend you need to add to your weblog a link to the following URL:

http://eekfun.com/users/URL#act:friend

You need to replace URL above with the URL of your friend's weblog. For example, if you want to add a friend with a weblog in http://fenomenoinvitro.blogspot.com/, you need to add the following link to your weblog:

http://eekfun.com/users/http://fenomenoinvitro.blogspot.com/#act:friend

Note that the link needs to remain in your weblog for as long as you want to list the other weblog as your friend.

If your friend is already in EekFun, the URL needs to match exactly the URL he's registered as. He will be added to your list of friends the next time EekFun downloads your weblog.

If, on the other hand, your friend is not already in EekFun, one invitation will be used to invite him to EekFun. Your friend will still need to confirm that he wants to join the Fun by adding a link to his weblog (as explained in How to join EekFun). Note that the URL used by your friend needs to match exactly the URL you use in your invitation (so try to use a canonical URL that matches the URL your friend will want to use).

Removing a friend

To remove a weblog from your list of friends, you simply need to erase his corresponding link (of the form described in the previous section) from your weblog.

In order for a weblogger to join EekFun two things need to happen:

The weblogger needs to add to his weblog a link and
An weblog already in EekFun with invitations left needs to invite the weblogger who is interested in joining.

You need to add a link to your weblog to the following page:

Getting an invitation

Once you have added your link to your weblog, you need to get invited by someone already in EekFun. Find a friend of yours in EekFun who has invitations left and bug him to add you to their friends list.

Note that the URL they used to add you to their friend's list needs to match exactly the one you used in your link (described in the previous section).

Welcome to EekFun, a weblogs-based social network.

EekFun aggregates stuff from participating weblogs, extracting meaning from links with a particular syntax. It works as an online community in which actions such as seeing a movie or reading a book are registered by participants by making posts to their weblogs.

Now that the weblogs hype is over (everybody and their dog are on Facebook now instead!) we decided to launch this community to try to unite those of us who remain true to our weblogging traditions.
